Our short courses take place at our Aldgate campus in east London: Calcutta House.
Our open evenings allow prospective students the opportunity to see where courses take place, ask any questions they may have about the course and to see the facilities.
Details of our open evenings will be on our website when the next date has been confirmed. If we have not set the next open evening, please contact us as we may be able to arrange a time for you to meet the tutor.
No, you don’t need to be interviewed or to show a portfolio to attend a short course. The course description will describe who the course is aimed at. Some will be for professionals, some for beginners and some will be open to a mix of abilities. By reading the different course descriptions you can deduce whether the course is suitable for you but please contact us if you have any further questions.
Short course students are unable to access our facilities outside of class hours as the University is in constant use by undergraduate and postgraduate students. Short course students are able to access the library on the day of their course but are unable to borrow items or use the computers or photocopying facilities.
For most courses, the easiest way to book is online via our eShop. Details can be found on the course page under the How to Apply section. Once you have booked a place, you will be emailed a receipt which is your proof of booking. If you have paid online but not received your receipt, please contact us.
If you would like to pay by another route, such as by cheque or if your company would like to be invoiced, please contact us.
We offer a limited number of discounted places, on a first come first served basis. The discount is 20% and is available to be requested within the same academic year on all short and professional development courses unless stated otherwise.
The discount is for those who:
- are registered as unemployed and in receipt of Jobseeker’s Allowance, ESA or Universal Credit
- have a DWP state retirement pension as their sole or main income
- who are registered as disabled and in receipt of DLA or PIP
- are currently enrolled full-time and part-time UK students on credit bearing courses
- are students of the School of Art, Architecture and Design on year-long day courses or London Met alumni members
- are London Met staff
No, we’re afraid that’s not possible. Aside from our 35 week Upholstery courses, all other short course places can only be booked when full payment has been made. If your business is paying for your course place, we must receive a booking form and Purchase Order Number before booking you onto the course. Please contact us for a booking form.
Once you have received your booking receipt, you will then be contacted one week before the start of the course with details of what to bring, where to go and how to get to us.
If we’re unable to run the course, we will notify you up to one week before the start of the course asking whether you’d like to transfer onto the next course or to have your course fees refunded.
If you’d like to cancel your place on a course your request should be made in writing (via letter or email). If your written request is received more than three weeks prior to the course start date, you will be entitled to a full refund, minus a £30 administration fee or to transfer to another course.
If your written request is received within three weeks of the course start date, we are not able to offer you a refund. Read our full terms and conditions.
Our 30 week Modern and Traditional Upholstery cut off dates differ. Please contact us for details of the current Upholstery booking deadline.
We really want you to get the most out of our courses but we understand that sometimes circumstances mean you have to miss a lesson. In the event, please contact us as soon as possible to let us know and we will pass the message on to your tutor. Please be aware that it won't be possible for you to make up the time or receive a refund, however the tutor will do their best to help you catch up, depending on the amount of time missed.
Funding is limited for those wanting to book onto short courses however you may be interested in investigating the Government’s Professional and Career Development Loan.
You will be given a Short Course Pass at the beginning of the course. This will enable you to access the building for each session. The pass will have details of the course you are attending therefore you will be unable to access the course at other times. Please ensure you bring your pass to each session and return it to reception at the end of your course.
We don’t offer University accommodation at the School; however there are a number of hotels and B&Bs in the local area, as well as in the centre of London. There is a useful website with information about accommodation near us.
The best thing to do is to join our mailing list. We will then email you when new course dates are online and booking opens.
