London Met’s Sian Moxon has shared her top book picks on sustainable design with Shepherd.com, a website that asks authors to share their favourite books around topics and themes they are passionate about and why they recommend each book.
Among the titles chosen by Moxon were: Rewild Yourself: Making Nature More Visible in Our Lives by Simon Barnes; 101 Rules of Thumb for Sustainable Buildings and Cities by Huw Heywood; and The Man Who Planted Trees by Jean Giono and Michael McCurdy; among others.
Moxon is an architect, academic, author, and founder of urban rewilding project, Rewild My Street, which aims to inspire and empower city residents to reverse biodiversity decline by transforming their homes, gardens, and streets for wildlife.
Her work combines her expertise in sustainable design; architectural-practice experience in housing, building conservation, and urban regeneration; and passion for wildlife.
Her book, Sustainability in Interior Design, highlights the need for designers to adapt the way they work and relearn lessons that have been lost. By considering the whole life cycle of a project, she argues that sustainability will improve its functionality, quality, human enjoyment, and bring real social and economic benefits.
