Professional development of learning and teaching is central to the University’s Strategic Plan. Our desire to enhance the teaching and learning experiences and achievement of our students is set within the wider goal of achieving equitable outcomes for our diverse students. Our course provides abundant opportunities for staff to discuss and review their practice in the light of scholarly activity, collegiality, new technologies and quality enhancement frameworks. All staff engaged in teaching and/or support of learning, whether new to teaching in higher education or with considerable experience, deserve opportunities to review methods and strategies and reflect on the use of a range of active, effective and liberatory teaching, learning and assessment (TLA) methods.

Our PGCert LTHE programme directly supports these aims and introduces you to the underpinning theoretical discourse and findings of research and surveys of best practices that inform quality and enhancement processes and educational developments.
Accredited by Advance HE, a sector body that works with institutions and higher education across the world to improve higher education for staff, students and society, our programme is aligned to the Professional Standards Framework (PSF) 2023 requirements, integrating the PSF into and across all modular activities and assessments. This PGCert LTHE core programme is thus a taught route, within the University’s CPD in Academic Practice (CAP) scheme, for new and experienced staff seeking professional recognition in the Descriptor 2 category of Advance HE Fellowship (FHEA).
