Teaching and Learning Forum 21st of March 2024

The London Met Learning & Teaching Forum series provides an important cross-institutional space to foreground some of the excellent work in areas relating to learning and teaching, and create a dedicated space to facilitate the sharing of effective practice whilst also bringing together our academic community.

Beyond Grades: How can we improve our students' experience of assessment? the latest London Met Learning and Teaching Forum was held on Thursday, the 21st of March 2024, from 1:30- 4:30 pm in Great Hall at Holloway Road Campus.

Following a welcome by Professor Nona McDuff OBE, Pro- -Vice Chancellor for Student Success, we had an exciting and informative programme including keynote speaker Dr Edd Pitt, Reader in Higher Education and Academic Practice in the Centre for the Study of Higher Education at the University of Kent, who discussed his significant higher education assessment research. Edd is the Programme Director for the Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education at the University of Kent and also an Honorary Associate Professor at The Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning (CRADLE) at Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia.

A staff panel shared their insights into effective assessment practice, and an interactive session gave attendees the opportunity to share thoughts and ideas on the key themes of the event. We rounded off the forum with tea and coffee and a chance to network.

The forum was aimed at course leaders, module leaders, academic mentors, heads of schools, heads of subjects, HOSEAOs, and interested colleagues from across professional services. Previous events focused on Social Justice, NSS initiatives, the experience of international students and the impact of Generative AI on HE.

In advance of the event, we recommend looking at the publication below if you have time.

"Impacts of higher education assessment and feedback policy and practice on students: a review of the literature 2016-2021"

We would also recommend that attendees to answer a single question in advance of the event here if they are able to.
