Heart of the campus

The Heart of the Campus Project represents a transformative initiative to redefine the central heart of our Holloway Campus. Driven by the valuable feedback from both staff and students, this project aims to create an updated, vibrant space that serves as the new entrance and centre of our campus community.

The redesigned space introduces new social learning areas, fostering a sense of community and collaboration. These areas are crafted to be flexible, catering to a variety of learning styles and needs, and are imbued with a contemporary, London Fabulous  aesthetic.

We are integrating cutting-edge technology throughout the campus, ensuring that our facilities remain at the forefront of educational innovation. This modernisation supports the evolving demands of both teaching and student life, providing a state-of-the-art environment for all. Key upgrades include a fully Teams-enabled 50-person presentation space on the ground floor, a projector added to breakout space, and a 4.8-meter-wide video wall installed in the lobby. These enhancements will foster a more connected, engaging, and dynamic educational experience.

Sustainability is a cornerstone of the Heart of the Campus Project. Our commitment to environmental responsibility is reflected in every aspect of the redesign, from construction practices to the final look and feel of the space. Notably, the inclusion of a living wall brings a touch of nature into our urban campus, enhancing both the aesthetic appeal and the well-being of our community.

The Heart of the Campus Project is a testament to our dedication to creating an inclusive, advanced, and sustainable environment, setting a new standard for campus life at Holloway.

Update December 2024

London Metropolitan University had entered into an agreement in principle with construction firm ISG to deliver our transformative Heart of the Campus project, and our timelines were initially based on working with them. The recent unexpected collapse of ISG has sent shockwaves through the construction sector, with many projects across the UK now seeking new contractors to move forward.

Thanks to careful planning and robust contractual safeguards, the University is protected against some of the immediate risks posed by this development. However, this situation inevitably presents challenges, including potential delays to the project timeline and cost implications due to the heightened demand for contractors and ongoing inflationary pressures.

Negotiations with a replacement contractor are underway and are working towards providing the first phase of this project in the summer of 2025. More details to follow in the New Year.

We will provide further updates as the project progresses.
