3. Good Health and Wellbeing

Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

Goal 3 aims to ensure health and promote wellbeing for all ages by improving reproductive, maternal, and child health, ending major epidemics, reducing non-communicable diseases, promoting mental health, and addressing behavioural and environmental health risks.

Health and wellbeing are at the core of London Met’s programmes, research, and resources for students, staff, and the broader community.

Actions and Initiatives

  • Health Sciences programmes: our programmes in biomedical science, psychology, sports therapy, and nutrition prepare students to make an impact on public health. Explore our health sciences courses.
  • UNICEF collaboration on COVID-19: London Met partnered with UNICEF to study non-pharmaceutical interventions for COVID-19 and their impact on public health. Read the UNICEF project summary.
  • £5 million health inequality project in Tower Hamlets: with this funding, we work alongside partners to address and reduce health inequalities in Tower Hamlets. Learn more about the Tower Hamlets project.
  • Mental health and well-being resources: services include free sexual health resources, the Rainbow Room, and fitness facilities, supporting holistic well-being. Access our mental health and well-being resources.
  • Employee Assistance Programme: our Employee Assistance Programme offers our staff access to a wide range of resources and support services.  These include confidential 24/7 counselling through our PAM Assist helpline as well as occupational health services, links to external services and guidance resources for managers.  Staff can access more information including our Wellness Calender with key awareness campaigns and webinars through our Staff Zone.
  • Smoke-free campus initiative: our buildings and most outdoor spaces are smoke-free, with designated areas for smoking. See our Smoke-Free Policy.
  • Fitness and wellbeing: all our staff and students have free access to our gym, sports facilities and fitness and wellbeing classes. Find out more about our facilities.
  • Community use of our fitness facitlies: it’s important to us that we make the best use of our fitness facilities so we also host a number of local sports groups and other educational institutions where space allows.  In 2023, we partnered with three local schools to host free events as part of our school outreach programme.
