Christmas shows and pantomimes
This Christmas, why not enjoy a festive treat with one of the numerous shows London has to offer. You can find anything from fun pantomimes to theatre fairy tales and even magical circus performances. Here is London Met’s Student blog selection for this year.
Sleeping Beauty at Hackney Empire – Enjoy exciting musical routines and charming comedy with Sleeping Beauty at Hackney Empire. Follow the adventures of Princess Tahlia (Sleeping Beauty) in the enchanted world of Hackneytonia, as the classic tale is reinvented for modern times in a hilarious Christmas panto, great choice for the whole family.
Potted Pando at the Garrick Theatre – Watch on as the comedy duo CBBC TV presenters Jeff and Dan attempt to perform seven pantomimes in just 80 minutes. Prepare for custard pies, absurd humour and terrible jokes as the double act leaps from Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, to Aladdin and Dick Whittington.
The Little Matchgirl and Other Happier Tales at Sam Wanamaker Playhouse – Inspired by the beautiful tale from Hans Christian Andersen, The Little Matchgirl, and combining Andersen's other tales, The Princess and the Pea, The Emperor's New Clothes and Thumbelina, this show will reveal a delightful world of magic and mystery.
Peter Pan Goes Wrong at Apollo Shaftesbury – The team behind The Play That Goes Wrong are bringing their version of the well-known Peter Pan story with a little twist. The idea behind it is very simple: the audience is in a fourth-wall-breaking performance of a show that falls apart spectacularly from the first scene. The stage quickly turns into beautiful chaos that guarantees a laugh-out-loud experience.
Million Dollar Quartet at Winter at Southbank Centre – Have yourself a rock ‘n’ roll Christmas with the Million Dollar Quartet. Inspired by a one-off recording session that saw Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins collaborate for the only time, this musical retells exactly what happened in the studio through some of the quartet’s best songs.
NoFit State Circus: BIANCO at Southbank Centre – Be dazzled by elegant stunts performed in every corner of NoFit State's big top tent. Set to the soundtrack of their live band you'll be right at the centre of the action with acrobats showing off amazing skills right above your head and all around you. Keep in mind that you’ll be standing throughout the show and guided around the space by stewards during the performance.
