How transferring to London Met works

Transferring from a Canadian college or university to London Met gives you the opportunity to complete your degree in the UK within a vibrant, globally-focused community. We review your existing degree or credits, allowing eligible students to enter directly into Year 2 or Year 3 of a 3-year UK degree programme. Our articulation agreements with select Canadian colleges provide a streamlined pathway for transfer. For students from other institutions, credits are evaluated individually to ensure the best possible placement.

Entry requirements

Students who have completed an associate’s degree or two years of a four-year degree at a Canadian college or university, with a minimum grade of C and 60%, may be considered for Advanced Entry to Year 2, evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Those who have completed three years of a four-year degree with a minimum grade of C and 60% may be considered for Advanced Entry to Year 3 (or a top-up Level 6 course), also evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Key differences between Canada and UK university systems

  • Course length: UK undergraduate degrees typically span 3 years, with transfer students usually entering in the second or final year.
  • Specialisation: UK degrees are highly focused and do not include general education requirements, allowing you to specialise in your chosen field from the start.
  • Grading system: The UK grading system differs from the Canada. Students receive classifications such as First, Upper Second (2:1), Lower Second (2:2), or Third.

Since there are no general education requirements, we focus on ensuring that your major-area credits meet or exceed our Year 1 or 2 curriculum.

What you’ll need to provide

To help us assess your application and credits, please submit:

  • Application: Apply directly on our website via your course page. Under the question “Are you applying for advanced entry due to previously completed study at another university/higher education provider?” select "Yes".
  • Academic Transcripts: Canadian college or university transcripts showing completed courses and grades and future courses.
  • Additional Requirements: Evidence of high school English and Math may be required. Non-Canadian citizens from non-majority English-speaking countries may need to provide a Secure English Language Test.

Additional Support

  • Scholarships and Financial Aid: London Met offers scholarships for Canadian transfer students, including the International Bright Futures Scholarship. Eligible students can also apply for Canadian Loans

At London Metropolitan University, we highly value partnerships with Canadian community colleges and universities, working together to offer a supportive and seamless transfer experience for your students. Our team is dedicated to helping you guide students interested in studying abroad in the UK and offering resources to establish long-term partnerships with us through articulation agreements.

Supporting your students’ transfer journey

Our aim is to make your students’ transition to London Met as smooth as possible. Here’s how you can help them prepare:

Application and Credit Transfer Guidance: Encourage students to gather their academic transcripts and apply directly for their chosen course. Our admissions team may also request additional documents, such as course syllabi and evidence of Maths and English qualifications, to assess for advanced entry into Year 2 or Year 3 of a 3-year programme. We advise students to review our Year 1 and 2 curriculum to help them select relevant classes before transferring.

Advising on Key Differences in UK Education:

  • Degree Structure: UK degrees are focused and generally 3 years in length, with no general education requirements. Students specialise in their chosen field from the start.
  • Academic Environment: London Met offers practical, industry-aligned courses emphasising work-related learning. Encourage students to reflect on their preferred learning style and to choose a course that aligns with their goals.
  • Financial Planning: Advise students on the costs of studying abroad, including tuition, living expenses. Some costs such as deposits, visa fees, the NHS surcharge, and travel expenses, must be covered before Canadian Loans are disbursed and students shoud plan accordingly.

For additional resources, please visit our International Schools and Colleges page, which includes information on the UK education system and advising tools for students interested in studying abroad.

Partnering with London Met through Articulation Agreements

We invite you to explore a partnership with London Met to create clear transfer pathways for your students. Our articulation agreements offer multiple advantages:

  • Customised transfer agreements: We provide a 2+2 system, where students spend two years at a community college completing their associate degree and then transfer directly into the second year of a bachelor's program at London Met, ensuring a streamlined continuation of their studies. In some cases we can also offer a 3+1 system where students complete 3 years of a 4-year programme and complete their final year (top-up course) at London Met.
  • Strong partnership: We want to build a long-term partnership. With a staff member based in British Columbia we provide bespoke training for staff in understanding the English education system, a single point of contact, attend in-person transfer fairs, deliver virtual 121s and pre-departure sessions and offer students scholarships for studying with us.
  • Tailored articulation: Recognising the diverse curriculum of community colleges and universities, we offer articulation agreements that respect the unique educational formats, providing a transparent credit transfer process.
  • Global perspectives: Partnering with London Met opens doors to a world-class education in one of the most vibrant cities in the world, broadening students’ academic and cultural horizons.
  • Additional Partnership Opportunities: There may also be opportunities for collaboration on study abroad programmes, semester and year exchange options, and staff exchange initiatives.

How do transfer students apply?

We encourage transfer students to apply directly through our website on the relevant course page. When completing the application, select “Yes” under the question “Are you applying for advanced entry due to previously completed study at another university/higher education provider?”

What are the entry requirements for transfer students?

Students who have completed an associate’s degree or two years of a four-year degree at a Canadian college or university, with a minimum grade of C and 60%, may be considered for Advanced Entry to Year 2, evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Those who have completed three years of a four-year degree with a minimum grade of C and 60% may be considered for Advanced Entry to Year 3 (or a top-up Level 6 course), also evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

What supporting documents are required for a transfer application?

Transfer students should submit their academic transcripts. Additional requirements may include course descriptions or syllabi (if available) and evidence of Maths and English proficiency, depending on the applicant’s background. Our admissions team will guide applicants on specific requirements after the application is reviewed.

How do transfer credits work at London Met?

For students from colleges with articulation agreements, we have already reviewed the curriculum and can provide a clear guide on which associate degrees and courses meet entry requirements. For students from other institutions, transfer credits are evaluated individually based on academic transcripts and course descriptions to ensure appropriate placement.

Typically students are provided with advanced entry to either Year 2 or 3 instead of having individual credits applied.

What is a 2+2 transfer pathway, and how does it work?

Our 2+2 transfer pathway allows students to complete a two-year associate degree at a Canadian community college and then transfer into Year 2 of a London Met degree. This pathway, established through articulation agreements, simplifies the transfer process and ensures a smooth transition for students. The same process can be repeated at a Canadian university following either a 2+2 pathway or 3+1 pathway.

Are there scholarships available for transfer students?

Yes, London Met offers scholarships for Canadian transfer students, including the International Bright Futures Scholarship. Eligible students may also apply for Canadian Loans
