London Met principal lecturer for languages Dr Ahmad Nazari has recently been interviewed by Hot Courses Abroad magazine on the subject of the increasing opportunities for graduates. Dr Nazari is course leader for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Applied Linguistics.
He discusses the rising demand for qualified specialists in this course in the United Kingdom and abroad. Some London Met graduates have secured teaching positions at primary and secondary schools in countries such as Switzerland, Poland and Finland. Others have developed and pursued careers in publishing, translation and interpreting.
Commenting on the experience of students on London Met’s TESOL and Applied Linguistics course, Dr Nazari says "English language teaching is all about being interested and curious about other cultures, so it is fascinating to see the students challenging their perceptions of others as well as seeing their own culture in a different light".
Students and staff on the course are drawn from range of diverse backgrounds which helps to explain the very international flavour of the careers they pursue after graduation.
Dr Nazari’s interview was published on October 9 2014.
