Date: 16 June 2017
Associate Professor of Translation and Interpreting Dr Alex Krouglov was invited to deliver masterclasses and attend examinations as an external examiner by the RUDN University, one of the leading state higher educational institutions of Russia.
London Metropolitan University and RUDN University have been in partnership since 2013 and have developed successful progression agreements for Translation BA and Translation MA students which allow RUDN students to receive degrees from both institutions.
During his visit to the RUDN University in June 2017, Dr Krouglov offered masterclasses for Translation MA students and Translation BA students. The training workshops covered the theory and practice of Interpreting, as well as the lingua-cultural aspects of Translation.
First year translation student, Dmitry Shish, said: “Alex managed to engage us all in a contemplative discussion. I was especially thrilled to examine the complex issues of cultural differences reflected in the Russian and English languages. This is a very important aspect in terms of our future translation practice.”
Dmitry’s thoughts were echoed by third year Translation student, Maria Maslova, who said: “From the very start Dr Krouglov inspired me to get involved in the interactive activity. I had an opportunity to demonstrate my translation skills, and the practical tasks were a really good practice for all of us.”
