Jude Rogers, senior lecturer on London Metropolitan University's Journalism degree programmes, has spent recent months working on a Radio 4 documentary, Mad About The Boy, which explores the positive flipside of female music fandom.
For the half-hour programme, she has worked with radio presenter Ruth Barnes and independent production company Falling Tree, and conducted interviews with a range of women who experienced pop fandom in different decades, from the 1960s through to the present day.
She has also researched the psychological effects of fan hysteria through history, and studied the work of American academic Barbara Ehrenreich on Beatlemania, and the connections between that generation of women's sexual liberation and early '70s second-wave feminism.
The show broadcast on Tuesday 28th January 2014.
