London Met and The Love Tank team up to launch new multilingual HIV PrEP resources

Essential sexual health resources have been translated in six other languages by London Met students to support wider distribution

Date: 13 June 2024

London Met students have collaborated with not-for-profit organisation, The Love Tank, to provide translations for their impactful sexual health campaigns.

New information resources about HIV PrEP are now widely available in multiple languages, thanks to this unique collaboration.

The materials are produced as part of a continuing collaboration between the two organisations, with London Met's translation students using The Love Tank's written materials as real-world translation case studies.

Availability of HIV PrEP in the UK on the NHS has had a profound impact on the incidence of HIV but huge inequalities to accessing PrEP remain. Ensuring information about PrEP is available in different languages is one step in addressing PrEP inequity.

Dr Piero Toto, Senior Lecturer in Translation at London Met commented: "Collaborating with The Love Tank is always such a privilege, as we contribute to promote their important work in sexual health. My students love seeing how translation can really make a difference and how impactful it can be when it reaches the wider community.”

Underserved community support

The Love Tank is a not-for-profit community interest company (CIC) that promotes health and wellbeing of underserved communities through education, community building, research, events, and communication & design.

It does this by creating evidence-driven programmes and interventions by and with the communities, including queer people, migrants, people of colour, sex workers, and other underserved groups.

The Love Tank is a lived experience organisation run by a small London-based team with a unique mix of community advocacy, public health, health promotion, harm reduction, capacity building, and equalities expertise.

Dr Will Nutland, Director of The Love Tank explained: "Each year students at London Met get to learn about aspects of sexual health that they might not otherwise know about. In return, The Love Tank — and the folks we work alongside — get to access quality translations of our sexual health information".
