Tara Young, Course Leader for Criminology and Youth Studies, delivered two successful workshops at the Scotland and Violence Prevention Conference.
Tara was invited to provide the female perspective in relation to gangs and youth violence.
The conference, held from 12th – 15th October 2012, took place at the Scottish Police College in Fife, Scotland, and focused on the successful implementation of the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit’s key initiative, the Community Initiative to Reduce Violence (CIRV). Delivered in collaboration with partners in Glasgow, CIRV has produced significant reductions in gang related violence and provides an opportunity to articulate the effectiveness of violence prevention strategies, specifically the application of the Public Health model as recommended by the World Health Organization.
The conference played host to a number leading international authorities on violence, including scholars and practitioners working and publishing in the field of violence prevention and resistance.
