London Met designer-makers begin trading on campus and at East London markets
Date: 12 December 2024
London Metropolitan University students and graduates recently took part in Makers Market, an annual opportunity led by London Met’s Enterprise team which gives entrepreneurial participants the chance to become market traders and start testing and selling their products on some of the busiest shopping days of the year.
15 London Met students and graduates were invited to set up stalls and trade their handmade products at Upmarket, the Old Truman Brewery’s famous Brick Lane craft market, on Saturday 30 November. This year our designer-makers brought products to market that included crochet kits, resin bookmarks, modular homeware, ranges of handmade fine jewellery, paintings and illustration prints, and more!
The Enterprise team also set up a series of pop-up opportunities on campus, with markets taking place at our Aldgate campus in The Atrium on 4 December and in The Rocket at our Holloway campus on 12 December.
Elecia Du-Bisette, Senior Student Enterprise Manager at London Met, said: "Makers Market is a true celebration of the incredible creativity of London Met’s students and graduates. This year, the Makers Market took place at the renowned Truman’s Brewery, where it was inspiring to see our students and graduates proudly showcasing their talents, engaging with real-life customers, receiving valuable feedback, and transforming their creativity into income.
On campus, two additional Makers Market events showcased the brilliance of our designers, makers and creators, with overwhelming support from our staff and student community. These events highlighted not only the exceptional skills of those who took part but also embodied the collaborative spirit that defines London Met.
Each year, the Enterprise team is inspired by the passion and dedication of those who participate. We are excited to see the Makers Market continue to grow, celebrating the incredible achievements of our market sellers and empowering the next wave of creative entrepreneurs."
