Professor Bal Virdee will chair the Communications & IT awards category.

Professor Bal Virdee, from the Centre for Communications Technology in the School of Computing and Digital Media, has been invited to chair the E&T Innovation Awards 2021 for the Communications and IT award category, sponsored by the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ).
The awards night recognises and celebrates new innovations across the breadth of science, engineering and technology. Entries are made from across the globe and have the potential to make dramatic improvements to modern society, demonstrating the innovation and imagination of engineers worldwide as they tackle economic and social challenges.
Professor Virdee commented: “I’m honoured to be asked to chair this year’s Communications & IT category. I will be supported by an expert panel from various industries.
“The E&T Innovation Awards recognise and celebrate the very best new innovations across the breadth of science, engineering and technology. I am expecting entries in this category to range from research concepts and ideas to technical issues and industrial applications. I’m sure this will keep me busy during the summer.”
The shortlist of finalists will be announced in September, and the winners will be announced at the virtual awards ceremony on 18 November 2021.
