Date: 5 September 2024
London Metropolitan University has been shortlisted for the Times Higher Education (THE) University of the Year award, it was announced today. The recognition highlights the University's remarkable transformation over the past few years, being one of six universities shortlisted for the top accolade in the higher education sector.
The THE Awards 2024 ceremony, known as the "Oscars of the UK university sector", will take place on Thursday 28 November at the ICC Birmingham. The University of the Year award recognises institutions in higher education that have demonstrated exceptional performance across various areas, including academic excellence, student experience and social impact.
Being shortlisted for the University of the Year award is a significant achievement for London Met, reflecting exceptional performance, particularly during the 2022-23 academic year. It recognises London Met's transformation under Professor Lynn Dobbs' leadership, its ongoing commitment to social impact, university growth, investment in facilities, student experience and research.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Julie Hall, commented:
"Being shortlisted for the Times Higher Education University of the Year award is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our community over the last six years. This recognition reflects London Met's remarkable transformation – diversifying our income portfolio, strengthening our commitment to social impact and inclusivity, and significantly enhancing the student experience.
"Everyone in the London Met community should be incredibly proud of this achievement and the strides we have made. It reflects our continuous efforts to transform lives through inclusive and innovative teaching, research and community engagement.
"I look forward to building on this success through our Estates strategy, digital transformation and championing social impact with students at the heart of everything we do."
London Met has also made the shortlist for Outstanding Marketing/Communications Team of the Year, which recognises the team's award-winning Real London campaign that made waves across the sector and helped change perceptions of the University. This shortlist marks a successful year for the Marketing and Communications team at London Met, who won Content Marketing Team of the Year earlier this year at the Higher Education Content Marketing Awards.
