London Met welcomes The Felix Project to Holloway Campus

London-based charity redistributes four tonnes of fresh produce to the community at London Met

Date: 22 May 2025

London Met’s Holloway campus proudly hosted The Felix Project who redistribute rescued high quality surplus fruit and vegetables that cannot be sold and would otherwise go to waste. At yesterday’s community partnership event, The Felix Project diverted four tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetables to around 800 students and staff members.

The Felix Project is London’s largest food redistribution charity who support 1,200 community organisations and schools across London. While reducing the environmental impact of waste, they support those experiencing food insecurity, helping to feed people experiencing hunger.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Julie Hall commented, “We are proud to partner with The Felix Project to take meaningful action toward reducing waste and promoting sustainability. This partnership strengthens our commitment to cultivating a culture of responsible consumption within the London Met community.”

The initiative not only provided nutritious options to staff and students but also highlighted the importance of sustainable practices, aligning with London Met’s dedication to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

“Events like this help us towards our sustainability goals on so many levels”, said Ailsa Shaylor, Sustainability Manager at London Met, “We create direct action by diverting food waste and supporting those who are impacted by food poverty, and at the same time, we increase knowledge and understanding of these issues by starting conversations about what more we can do both as an institution and on a personal level.”

In 2024 The Felix Project prevented almost 16,000 tonnes of surplus food worth £63 million from going to waste, rescuing and distributing enough to provide 38 million meals through their network. Find out more about The Felix Project.
