London Met architecture students celebrate success, with Ryan Speer receiving a nomination for the prestigious RIBA award and Olusola Adebakin winning apprentice of the year

London Met architecture students celebrate their recent successes. Student Ryan Speer has been nominated for a prestigious Architecture RIBA award, alongside Olusola Adebakin winning apprentice of the year.
5th year Architecture apprentice London Met student, Ryan Speer, has been nominated for the RIBA Silver Medal. Every year architecture schools from across the world nominate two students to compete for the prize. RIBA is a postgraduate course that combines an apprenticeship with studying over a four-year period. Students complete RIBA parts 2 and 3, while practicing with in architecture.
The project’s brief proposes a vacant commercial building in the London Borough of Sutton as a provocation to explore innovative approaches to reuse and repair in architecture.
Ryan Speer commented: “I am very grateful to receive this nomination. This recognition is not only a testament to the support and encouragement I have received from my workplace, friends, and tutors, but also a reflection of the architectural apprenticeship and the collective effort of everyone who has made this study route possible.”
The success keeps coming
Another RIBA architecture student has reaped the rewards of their hard work and dedication this year.
Fellow architecture student, Olusola Adebakin, picked up the RIBA Part 2 level 7 Apprentice of the year. Adebakin was presented with the prestigious award by the Lord Mayor Michael Mainelli at Mansion House.
Adebakin commented: “I was pleasantly surprised to have won the award. It was a very proud moment to know that my efforts in both my employment and studies was recognised and praised.”
Director of Chris Dyson Architects, Yashin Kemal, where Adebakin has been in practice commented: “We’re delighted that Olu has won the WCCA Architect Apprentice Employee of the Year award. This is testimony to his hard work and dedication both in the CDA studio and his studies at London Metropolitan University.”
