London Met’s top highly-cited academics, according to global data

Celebrated scholars’ research and project work has been referenced frequently this year, consolidating their expertise on the global stage

Recent data reveals several London Met academics classify as highly cited scholars, across various sub-fields of expertise. Scientists are grouped into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields and ranked by c-score, a composite citation index including H-index and 5 other bibliometric indicators.

The following academics are considered within the top 2% of the world’s top 200,000 cited scholars in their field according to the recent metrics on citations:

Additionally – Priyanka Ganguly is in the top 2.18% and Bal Virdee is within the top 2.76%.

Beyond the overall statistics, many of London Met’s academics have been given a percentile rank and flagged as high performing within the ‘Specialist Field’ category of the data, also referred to as ‘sub-field 1’ by Stanford/Elsevier.

Researchers are classified into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields based on Science-Metrix's established classification, drawing from Scopus data provided by Elsevier.

The ranking is based on citations from 2024, updated to the end of 2023 and uses metrics like h-index, co-authorship adjustments, and a composite citation score (c-score) demonstrating the impact of the researchers' work rather than solely the publication count.

  • Bal Virdee (sub-field Networks and Telecommunications) 2,170/206,482= top 1.05% (PR 98.95%)
  • Jameel M. Inal (sub-field Biochemistry/Molecular Biology) 2,153/208,384= top 1.03% (PR 98.97%)
  • Louise Ryan (sub-field Sociology) 115/11,359= top 1.01% (PR 98.99%)
  • Priyanka Ganguly (analytical Chemistry) 1,206/122,576= top 0.98% (PR 99.02%)
  • Anil Kumar (Business and Management) 356/57,191= top 0.62% (PR 99.38%)
