Professor Julie Hall, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost at London Metropolitan University, joined other education leaders from across Europe on a panel at the QS European Summit in Barcelona last week.
The event, hosted by the EU Business School, one of London Met’s international partners, focused on leadership and sustainability in higher education.
During the panel titled "Business for A Better World: A Global Collaboration," Professor Hall, who will become London Met’s Vice-Chancellor later this year, highlighted the importance of the University's Education for Social Justice Framework, and called on academic leaders to show greater bravery and openness in their commitment to addressing injustices, especially in these challenging times.
“London Met has placed social justice at the heart of everything it does,” Julie commented afterwards. “Sometimes the scale of the task, and the reaction the work can attract, is daunting, but we’ve shown at London Met that real progress can be made.
"I was delighted to share some of the amazing achievements of our staff and students with sector leaders and policymakers."
The panel, moderated by Dr Jon-Hans Coetzer from EU Business School and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), included eminent thought leaders such Carina Hopper, co-founder of Join EDuC & Back to School for the Planet; Dr Tola Adesina, Associate Provost at the University of Derby; and Professor Andrea Vargiu, Director of FoistLab at the University of Sassari.
The QS Higher Ed Summit: Europe 2024, held from 10-12 July, brought together over 400 European higher education leaders. The summit provided in-depth insights on student recruitment strategies, student needs and preferences, and the role of technology, data, and design in achieving institutional performance goals.
