London Met alumna Patricia Mediavilla who is now working for London and Partners, a company who aims to build the city’s international reputation to attract investment and visitor spend; returned to the University to talk to our third year destination marketing students about London’s campaign focused on culture.
Students became familiar with the current cultural tourism campaign - London's Autumn Season which seen Downtown Abbey's star Jim Carter as campaign ambassador and importance of cultural offer in the global appeal of London’s tourism product portfolio. In return, they shared ideas for future campaigns including black and white themed Culture in Action, focused on locality London's neighbourhoods, music and film city and finally a royal themed campaign.
Dr Ela Rogers, a Senior Lecturer in Tourism Management, said: “This was a great opportunity for students to see beyond the typical work opportunities in the tourism and travel industry and acknowledge the growing importance of destination management and marketing along with tourism planning and consultancy as a prospective career path”.
