Last month, London Met's Interdisciplinary Research Forum organised a workshop entitled: 'Social Integration and Place Making: Infrastructures of Belonging', organised as part of the Interdisciplinary Research Forum at London Met
The virtual session and featured members of the Global Diversities and Inequalities Research Centre (Prof. Louise Ryan, Prof. Diana Stirbu and Dr. Beatrice de Carli) as well as London Met student researchers (Ricardo Pereira Carvalho), practitioners (Nicola Bacon from Social Life), and policymakers (James Parkinson from the Greater London Authority) was held on 3rd November 2022.
The workshop explored current and past London Met research investigating the links between London's built environment and social integration of Londoners. It brought into dialogue work from a wide range of disciplinary perspectives including sociology, architecture and urban planning, and policy and governance, taking as shared points of inquiry themes of migration, belonging, embodied experience within community networks and local participation infrastructures. The workshop contributed both theoretical and practice-based insights on dynamics of placemaking and social integration in the urban context.
