London Met welcomes Ian Dickens as new ITS Director

Ian will head the Information and Technology Services team, covering the infrastructure and all IT operations across the University.

London Met is delighted to welcome Ian Dickens as its new Director of ITS.

Ian will be tasked with developing the University’s technology strategy and identifying any areas where the IT provision could be improved for students and staff.

Eugene McCrossan, London Met’s Chief Operating Officer, said “as ITS Director, Ian will play a key role in improving student and staff experience. His valuable knowledge and insight will help the University provide the technological platform from which students can succeed and flourish.”

Ian joins London Met from the University of Westminster, where he was the Head of Operations and Service Management. Ian has extensive relevant experience, having also worked at the University of Leicester in several high profile roles.

Prior to switching to Higher Education, Ian worked in the NHS. “As Head of IT at the Christie Hospital in Manchester I had the chance to work closely with University of Manchester staff and recognised the importance and opportunity that IT working in partnership with academia could provide, and at this point I made a decision to direct my career to the Higher Education sector.”

Speaking of his appointment, Ian said “I am very excited to join London Met. It’s a fantastic opportunity and I’m really keen to ensure that we continue to develop our key services for students and colleagues, delivering what people need, when they need it.”

“I look forward to working with the ITS team to see how we can improve our delivery and efficiency to support teaching and learning. We will continue to modernise to ensure that we are providing a responsive service.”

“London Met is currently in a strong financial position, which provides a real opportunity to expand and improve on the current service, which is especially important where technology can support a staff and student body with diverse and different needs.”

Ian achieved a BA in Business Studies at the University of Manchester, and went on to complete an MA at the University of Winchester, and more recently, an MBA at the University of Leicester.
