Date: 5 August 2022
Professor Vassil Vassilev and Dr Viktor Sowinski-Mydlarz from London Met’s esteemed Cyber Security Research Centre recently attended the Third International Summer School on Data Analytics in Predeal, Romania.
The summer school, which ran from 22 to 31 July, was organised jointly by the Bucharest School of Business and GATE Institute of Sofia University with the financial support of InterTwino and Data Cloud European Projects. The week consisted of a combination of lecture-style talks introducing various data science paradigms and methods, hands-on sessions, and student projects. The scheme is open to students and professionals. Organisers of the summer school describe the course as made for 'those trying to boost their perspectives and embark on the data wave'.
The main aim of the School was to familiarise students with the latest development in data science. The programme covered the fundamentals of data science, covering key data topics such as:
- Data analytics and statistics
- Machine learning
- Causal inference
- Time series, graphs, text processing
- Data visualisation
- Data pipelines (data enrichment pipelines, machine learning pipelines)
Alongside the London Met cohort, scholars from the USA, UK, Norway, Spain, Romania, and Bulgaria contributed to the success of the School which was attended by 30 students from different universities and business organisations.
Vassil Vassilev, Professor in AI and Intelligent Systems, and Dr. Sowinski-Mydlarz, Research Fellow and lecturer in Computer Science, concluded the week of learning, sharing, and development with a lecture and a workshop on Operationalizing Machine Learning Pipelines, an area of great interest for both students and academics.
