Aurora Herrera

Dr Aurora Herrera is a lecturer in the journalism department of London Metropolitan University. Aurora is from Trinidad and Tobago and her core area of research pertains to journalism culture, media freedom, media law, censorship and safety of journalists within the Caribbean region. She completed a Specialist in Journalism at the University of Toronto, followed by a PhD at City, University of London where she has also been a visiting lecturer. She has also been a lecturer in journalism at the University of West London and Middlesex University.

Aurora is a past fellow of the Annenberg-Oxford Media Policy Summer Institute as well as One World Media. She is also an alumnus of the Media Institute of the Caribbean and is currently an editorial member of the Caribbean Investigative Journalism Network, with a journalism career in print and television spanning more than a decade.

Aurora has previously taught in the journalism departments of City, University of London, Middlesex University and the University of West London. At these universities, Aurora's teaching responsibilities spanned the journalism curriculum at the BA level and MSc levels. She taught media ethics, investigative journalism, specialist journalism, podcasting, and content marketing and media editing, journalism skills and big data and coding before working at London Met. In her present role as Lecturer in Television Journalism, Aurora teaches broadcast journalism, reporting: news and features, writing for media, advanced reporting and making news for TV.
