Chiara Cola

Chiara holds an MA in Media and Communication Studies, with majors in Sociology and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.

She has been working since 2007 as a digital artist in prestigious cross-disciplinary projects within the creative industries, including in costume design for film, with Academy Awards winners Gabriella Pescucci and Milena Canonero for “The Grand Budapest Hotel” by Wes Anderson
She exhibited her print, video, and textile work in galleries such as Art Basel Miami 2010, Whitechapel Gallery, International Women’s House and Cinecitta’ Film Studios in Rome.
Her textile prints were published by Diane Pernet on ASVOF and featured in print on Vogue Italia and Harper’s Bazaar Russia. In 2019, she also started experimenting with VR design.

She had previous international cross-disciplinary teaching experiences in prestigious universities in the United Kingdom, UAE and Italy, including UAL, DIDI in Dubai and Accademia Costume e Moda in Rome, in BA/MA Courses such as Print Design, Multimedia Design, Fashion Styling and Production.

Chiara has been working at London Metropolitan University since 2018, first as Tutor of the National Saturday Club of Art and Design (until 2023) and then as Associate Lecturer in the Interior Design BA Studio Modules. She gained an Advance HE Fellowship, after completing the PGCert Course in 2021.

From November 2022, she leads the Design Studio Team in Foundation and teaches as Senior Lecturer in the Interior Design BA CCS Module.

Her teaching approach balances creativity, making and technical skills, aiming to cultivate and empower the unique talent of each student through dialogue, experimentation and a free approach to imagination and vision.

Her current academic research focuses on cross-disciplinary practices in design, the immersive reality tools, interconnected by the influence and legacies of the Italian Futurist movement.

Her talk “Exploring the connections between Italian Futurism and VR design” was selected through an open call process to be part of the Futurism in Progress Symposium at the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art in London in February 2024, marking the anniversary of the first Futurist Manifesto.

She is part of the research group Creature and exhibited in the Making Matters shows in 2023 and 2024.
