Alicia has a background in academia, working specifically in the field of Polymer Technology and Engineering. Having studied initially in Ireland and then at London Metropolitan University (and both its predecessors), she gained degrees and a PhD in this subject area, with a focus on plastics processing and fracture mechanics.
For many years, she was employed as a senior lecturer within London Metropolitan University and has also held a lecturing post at the University of Waikato in New Zealand. She has been employed as a consultant with the British Plastics Federation and with the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, dealing with a broad range of enquiries concerning plastics and rubber. Across many years, she has organised and been involved with a great many outreach programmes and study days and she continues to present science lectures and talks to school pupils, teachers and other interested groups in the wider community.
Alicia has worked for many years with John at the Cyprus Centre, taking over as Director on John’s retirement in 2002.
