Dr Pérez Andrade is a senior lecturer in English language teaching and the course leader for the English Language Teaching and the English Language Teaching (Distance Learning) MA degrees. Dr Pérez Andrade has a PhD in applied linguistics from the University of Southampton where he was also a member of the Centre for Global Englishes. He trained as a teacher of English in Chile and holds an MA in applied Llnguistics and English language teaching from King’s College London.

Gonzalo's teaching covers a number of areas, across applied linguistics and teacher education, including sociolinguistics, intercultural communication, language assessment and research methods. He also supervises postgraduate dissertations on English language teaching (ELT) and applied linguistics.
Gonzalo's research focuses on exploring language ideologies in ELT teacher education programmes as well as understanding their impact on the beliefs of English teachers, especially in non-native English speaking contexts. His main areas of interest are teacher education, English as a lingua franca (ELF), teacher cognition and the sociology of language. He has presented his research in a number of conferences and workshops in Europe, Asia and Latin America.
