Hilda is a Reader in Nutrition and Health at the School of Human Sciences.
Hilda initially studied in her native Ireland, taking a conjoint qualification. She graduated from Trinity College Dublin with an Hons degree in Human Nutrition and a Diploma in Dietetics from Kevin Street College of Technology Dublin. She completed her PhD in Nutrition at Southampton University. She has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is a Registered Dietitian with the Health and Care Professions Council and a member of the Nutrition Society.
Hilda is currently module leader for a number of modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. She contributes to teaching on several modules, and has particular interest in public health nutrition.

Hilda is an external examiner and regularly peer reviews academic submissions for several journals. She is very active in professional practice, holding committee positions on organisations both within the UK and Europe. She has been an active committee member of the Obesity Group of the British Dietetic Society since 2006, holding a range of positions including Training Officer and Best Practice Officer. She has also been a committee member of the European Specialist Dietitians Network (Obesity) since 2014. She is a member of the Obesity Management Collaborative UK and a Fitness to Practice Panel member for the Health and Care Professions Council.
