Michael is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and retired Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Further, Michael holds a BSc in Estate Management, an MSc in Real Estate together with postgraduate qualifications in Property Investment and Arbitration. During COVID, he successfully completed the Postgraduate Certificate Teaching in Higher Education at Oxford Brookes. Currently, he is studying for an MA in Education (Leadership and Management), and is about to begin his research for the dissertation.
By way of wider background, Michael has extensive experience in private practice, including running his own consultancy for some twenty years. Further, he is a Chair for the RICS Assessment of Professional Practice, Commercial Real Estate Pathway. Michael started his teaching career about six years ago on a part time basis at the University College of Estate Management, and over the last two years he was teaching full time at the University of Westminster before joining London Metropolitan. Consequently, Michael is a pracademic.
Michael enjoys teaching valuation particularly concerning commercial real estate together with development. He also likes to give the Surveyor's perspective on the law of Landlord and Tenant, again especially concerning commercial real estate. Further, he is an advocate for surveyors learning about people and organisational management specifically regarding team building and performance, and internal dispute resolution.
