Robert Fonseca

Rob is Head of Initial Teacher Education within the School of Social Professions, taking responsibility for all of the primary and secondary routes. He has also worked for a number of years as Partnership Link Tutor for London Met.

Rob is an English and Drama specialist, he taught in London secondary schools for 26 years, including 15 years as Head of Drama and Professional Coordinating Mentor, organising PGCE students and Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs).

More recently, he spent six years as a senior leader, leading on Teaching and Learning, Continuous Professional Development (CPD), Careers and the Extended Schools Programme. Rob has worked as a secondary Arts Consultant both independently and for Hackney Learning Trust, supporting school improvement within the arts, undertaking inspections, organising teacher support networks and running a large-scale Arts Festival.

He has a BA Hons in Theatre Studies from the University of East London, PGCE in English and Drama from the Institute of Education and an MA in Modern British Theatre from London Met. He has undertaken considerable further training including National College for School Leadership Pathways and Ofsted training. He is a former GCSE and A Level examiner for Edexcel.

Rob has taught English and Drama across the age ranges in secondary schools, including a range of cross-curricular projects with Maths, Science, Modern Foreign Languages and History amongst other subjects.

He has run teacher CPD workshops on developing good practice in teaching A Level Drama, and regular programmes of teacher development and improvement, both in school and across the borough.
