Dr Timos Almpanis joined the Centre for Teaching Enhancement in August 2023 as a Principal Lecturer in Digital Education. His responsibilities are to lead on the coordination and the provision for professional development in digitally enhanced education and to offer expert support on a range of strategic initiatives related to digital education.
Having a background in Education as a secondary teacher in Greece, Timos was fascinated by the possibilities of web-based technologies to enhance learning, and migrated to the UK in 2004 to study for a Master's in Computer-based Learning and Training (CBLT). Since 2005 Timos has worked in various UK HEIs, initially as a Learning Technologist (University of Plymouth, Solent University) and more recently as a Senior Lecturer in Teaching and Learning (University of Greenwich, Kingston University). Over the years Timos has advised and mentored, formally and informally, hundreds of academic staff in all aspects of academic practice, including curriculum design, the use of technology to enhance learning, as well as gaining a category of Fellowship. He has also co-led the adoption and roll-out of various learning technologies and advised senior university committees about technology adoption.
Timos holds a BEd in Philosophy and Education (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki) an MSc in Computer Based Learning & Training (University of Southampton) and a PhD in E-Research and Technology Enhanced Learning (Lancaster University. He is also a Senior Fellow (SFHEA) of the Higher Education Academy, now part of AdvanceHE.
His current research interests include curriculum design and staff development in the area of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL). His work has been presented in a number of national and international conferences and has also been published in international peer-reviewed journals such as the Electronic Journal of E-Learning (EJEL) and the British Journal of Educational Research (BERJ).
