Norwegian student Hanne explains the challenges she faced when thinking about moving to a new country for her Global Human Resource Management MA – and what she's enjoyed the most so far as an international student.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am originally from a small town in southern Norway called Kvinesdal. When I began high school, I moved to Kristiansand to pursue studies in music, dance and drama. Later, I relocated to Trondheim to start my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. Before moving to London, I lived in Oslo, where I worked as a kindergarten teacher. I particularly enjoyed the leadership aspect of my role, which inspired me to explore opportunities in human resources.
What brought you to London Met?
I have always been eager to study in a new country. Having visited London previously, I fell in love in the city. When I began researching potential study programs, the choice became clear. The MA in Global Human Resource Management offered the modules I wanted to take.
What did studying at London Met mean to you?
After some months here, I really like the school. You get the feel that the teachers want you to succeed, with both the assignments and in your future work life.
What is your biggest passion in life and where did that passion come from?
On of my passions is to travel and explore new places and cultures. I think I have always had that passion, but after I started earning my own money, and had the opportunity to travel more, it has only gotten stronger.
What drives you?
I like to challenge myself and try new things.
What’s the proudest moment in your life?
My proudest moment was to follow my heart and start over again. I had a good job and my own apartment in Oslo. But I felt that I was not ready to settle down quite yet. So, I sold the apartment and applied for school in a new country. Even if I had a bit of resistance from my family. But I still did it. And I’m very happy and proud of that.
Tell us a little bit about your interests outside of uni and why they are important to you.
When I am in Norway I like going on hikes in the mountains. I also really like the winter in Norway. Cross-country skiing is a favourite activity in the wintertime.
What’s next in your career?
My goal is to find a job in HR here in London.
