Nathaly Bustos Sánchez

Nathaly decided to move from Colombia to London to study Human Rights and International Conflict MA. She shares her perspective of what being a London Met student meant to her. 

Tell us a little bit about yourself

I am a lawyer, born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. I place great importance on family values, and one of my greatest passions is traveling, exploring new places, and meeting new people. I am also deeply passionate about animals. Currently, I am pursuing a Master's degree in Human Rights and International Conflict. 

What brought you to London Met? 

My decision to pursue studies at London Met University was driven by my interest in its academic programs, its prime location, and the opportunity to engage with various student organizations that align perfectly with my career objectives. I believe that London Met provides an ideal environment for both my professional and personal growth.

What does studying at London Met mean to you?  

Studying at London Metropolitan University represents an exceptional opportunity to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds across the globe. The university's multicultural community has greatly contributed to shaping me into a more open-minded individual while allowing me to broaden my perspectives. Additionally, it provides access to the necessary resources to ensure a comprehensive and high-quality education.

What is your biggest passion in life and where did that passion come from? 

My greatest passion in life is animals. I actively volunteer and sponsor rescued dogs and cats through various organizations in my country. Having grown up surrounded by a variety of animals, they have always been an integral part of my life. Assisting them provides me with a sense of purpose and allows me to feel a connection to something greater than the human species.

What drives you?  

What drives me is my strong desire to make a meaningful impact in the world, particularly for those who are most in need. I consistently challenge myself to improve and evolve in every aspect of my life. I believe that the capacity for growth and contribution is something that should be valued by all.

Tell us a little bit about your interests outside of uni and why they are important to you. 

Outside of my academic pursuits, I have a variety of interests, including traveling and exploring new places and cities. I enjoy discovering new cuisines and learning about history and its influence on contemporary cultures in different countries. I have a deep appreciation for attending concerts and theatre performances. Additionally, I find joy in baking and spending quality time with my family and friends. Cycling is another passion of mine, and over the years, I have found that regular physical activity significantly contributes to my mental well-being.

What’s next in your career? 

In the short term, I am focused on acquiring the skills and expertise necessary to become a successful leader and advocate for the protection of people's rights. In the long term, I envision myself advancing into a leadership role that will enable me to make a tangible impact on an international scale.

Do you have any advice for anyone else considering studying at London Met? 

I would just say, do it. Embrace the opportunity to learn and grow by coming to London. It is an incredible city that offers a wealth of experiences both on and off campus. Be open to new opportunities and allow the world to reveal the many wonders of life. Build meaningful connections that could lead to opportunities you may never have imagined. Take the risk—it will be worth it.

What’s your favourite piece of Uni equipment or your favourite space at London Met and why?

My favourite place on the Holloway Campus is The Rocket Café, where there is always something happening, whether it's music, complimentary food, or the presence of friendly people.

If you could sum up your experience at London Met in one word, what would it be?

Unforgettable.

What’s your favourite place in London and why? 

My favourite place in London is Shoreditch, where one can enjoy a variety of excellent shops, cafés, pubs, and a vibrant atmosphere.
