Awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science by the University in 2015, Professor Mark Rümmeli is a chartered scientist specialised in nanotechnology and physics.
Professor Rümmeli studied Physics and Computer Electronics at London Met and obtained a PhD in Analytical Chemistry and Plasma Physics. He then spent several years working in the United States and the West Indies developing e-learning platforms for healthcare education.
Subsequent to this he joined the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) a joint research collaboration between the German Space Agency (DLR) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
He is currently based at the College of Physics, Optoelectronics and Energy at Soochow University in China where he is in the process of establishing a research group which will utilize state of the art transmission electron microscopy for the investigation of novel nano-materials and their structures.
Professor Rümmeli also heads the Molecular Nanostructures at the IFW Dresden (Leibniz Institute) and a nano-sensor lab at the Polish Academy of Sciences.
