City of London competition for sculptural ventilation
Following the successful Aldgate Street Furniture competition in 2016, Cass students were invited by the City of London Corporation to propose designs for a sculptural ventilation post for Aldgate Square. The square opened in July 2018 and is one of the largest new open spaces in the City of London.
80 proposals were submitted from across the Cass: Architecture, Fine Art, Jewellery and Silversmithing. The shortlist of 12 was considered at a scoring session with a panel of judges from Cass and Corporation of London Public Realm, Transportation and Planning.
The judges commended all the entries on both their creativity and practicality. The entry with the highest score was Dominik Wiecek (Third year BA Jewellery and Silversmithing). Runners up were Nicola Margai (Third year BA Jewellery and Silversmithing) and Andrew Brown (First year Architecture BA), all receiving £250 from the City of London. Dominik’s winning entry is now seeking funding for installation, with support from the Corporation of London.
