New Bob and Roberta Smith artwork proposed for Calcutta Bridge

As part of the Middlesex Street Art Trail, Tower Hamlets are funding the School of Art, Architecture and Design Professor Bob and Roberta Smith’s work ART MAKES PEOPLE POWERFUL. Subject to planning, it will be installed with LED lighting, over Old Castle Street on the Calcutta House bridge.

The project has been developed from a previous proposal at Central House, and the statement invited responses for a mural on the Calcutta Annexe end wall. The winning mural design by Jacob V Joyce was chosen by public vote in June 2022.
