A talk by Julia King and Jan Kattein, as part of the Who Cares? Talks.
Happy new year and welcome back for the second part of the Who Cares? talks. We will start 2017 with presentations from two very different practitioners, Julia King and Jan Kattein, who will talk to us about their distinct approaches to designing with and for communities.
Alumna from The Cass Julia King will reflect on how her past projects in Delhi, which aimed to improve the provision of sustainable sanitation infrastructure in marginalised settlements, have influenced her more recent work addressing housing in the UK. Julia was named Emerging Woman Architect of the Year in 2014. More recently, she was part of the design team for the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2016.
Jan Kattein has a long history of working with local authorities in London to deliver regeneration schemes and to find opportunities for projects that might be valuable to local communities. His work ethos often translate into his teaching, where he encourages students to find opportunities to connect to communities through building real projects.
