About this event
Artists Mae Shummo, Lucia Medina Uriarte and Ektoras Arkomanis will present their recently completed artwork Protea / Extraction, which was commissioned by Anti-Apartheid Legacy and The Liliesleaf Trust UK. Protea / Extraction draws on two elements: a plant seed and a site of colonial oppression which share the name Protea. The artists will discuss how these are connected by the political and botanical histories of South Africa, will talk about seed banks and seed economies, and about the creative process behind the artwork, which involved photography, drawing, sculpture, and bronze casting.
