6-7 June 2024
The 12th International Conference on Frontiers of Intelligent Computing: Theory and Applications (FICTA 2024) hosted by the AI and Data Science Research Group in London Met's School of Computing and Digital Media welcomed keynote speakers who set the pace for some thought provoking ideas related to ‘how to do machine learning properly’, ‘challenges of power grid stability and sustainability’, and ‘security issues around AI’. Organised by Professor Preeti Patel, the conference assembled an international group of academics and industrialists to present, discuss, and debate the various intelligent technologies, their contemporary application, and their capacity to impact and address societal issues.
The keynote speeches delivered by Dr Jesús Requena Carrión, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Queen Mary University of London, Mr Clarke V Simmons, MD and Founder, Neuville Grid Data Ltd. and Prof. Yonghong Peng, Professor of Artificial Intelligence, Anglia Ruskin University, resulted in lively debates for the duration of the conference.
The successful conference series, now in its 12th year, has focused on the domain of intelligent computing theories and the application to computer sciences as well as other domains of engineering. As well as the keynote speeches, over 200 peer-reviewed papers were presented during the two days of the hybrid conference. In addition, 55 attendees, including the authors of research papers, were present at the in-person event, with another 150 people involved in the virtual day presentations.
London Met Masters and research students played various important roles in the event, from authoring and presenting papers to being members of the organising support team; giving them an excellent opportunity to engage with a diverse and international AI community without having to leave the campus. Dr Maitreyee Dey undertook to coordinate all aspects of the event.
