As our population ages, achieving healthy aging is a key objective for research and health professionals. We also know that there is a striking differential between how well different sections of our population age, including minoritised groups and those of low socioeconomic status.
The researchers in this theme will specifically investigate indicators and causes of aging at the molecular level, with a focus on understudied populations and inclusive solutions.
Aims
- To investigate nucleic acid markers e.g. SNPS, telomere length and integrity and epigenomics
- To understand the role of key proteins in aging and complex disease including neurodegeneration; metabolic and hormone balance in aging
- To develop and investigate lab-based and non-lab based therapeutics for healthy aging
- To investigate environmental and dietary influences which exacerbate or mitigate healthy aging and the related complex disease risks
Project details forthcoming.
