To highlight Rare Disease Day, postgraduate research students and staff from the School of Human Sciences organised a "Bake Your Research" event on campus for Rare Disease Day 2024. PhD students and staff came together to bake cakes related to their scientific work and raise awareness for rare diseases.
The event, which was open to all London Met staff and students, aimed to shine a light on the challenges faced by the 300 million people worldwide living with a rare disease.
The event consisted of a cake sale, a raffle and a presentation by PGR students entitled "Rare Diseases; why does it matter?" sharing information about rare diseases and why supporting affected people is important.
The event received excellent feedback from all those involved and the standard of the cakes was really high!
The event raised £769 which was donated to Genetic Alliance UK's Rare Disease UK initiative.
