29 March 2023
On Wednesday 29 March, the Global Diversities and Inequalities Research Centre hosted a successful workshop and networking event for PhD students at Holloway Road campus.
The event was well attended by PhD students who are members of the Centre, some who would like to join the Centre, and others who were simply interested in meeting others with similar interests.
Several PhD students presented their reflections on their own work and answered questions from the audience. In a nice and relaxed environment, they had the opportunity to engage in a lively debate on topics, approaches and methods. After the presentation, there was ample opportunity for networking and sharing experiences over light refreshments.
- Alessia Dalceggio, who is in the second year of her PhD, talked about conducting her first pilot interviews and preparing for her fieldwork.
- Next, Neha Doshi, also in the second year of her PhD, talked about research design and deciding on the most appropriate methods.
- Hosn Houssami then talked about her experiences of doing fieldwork abroad.
- Dr Wally Shannon Mbassi Elong, who had recently defended his thesis, talked about preparing for the viva.
- Finally, Prof. Louise Ryan (Director of the Centre with a long and productive research career, shared some of her experiences of publishing and getting her first article published in an academic journal.
This was one of the several successful activities organised at the Centre to bring together the research community, including early career researchers and PhD students, and to encourage them to attend our seminar series and, where possible, to become involved in our research projects where possible.
We welcome postgraduate students wishing to become involved in the Centre.
If you would like to be part of our community of students, please contact Prof. Louise Ryan (Director) and/or Dr María López (Deputy Director).
