Dr Alya Khan speaking at 'British Academy Late: The Human Experience' event

London Met academic Dr Alya Khan was an invited speaker at the 'British Academy Late: The Human Experience' public event in London on 17 October 2024. Her talk was entitled 'It has no oozy things!': Narratives of 'Home' amongst Racially Minoritised People in London. In her talk, Dr Khan reflected on narratives of 'home' recorded on her collaborative oral history project with racially minoritised Londoners. She discussed how oral history, with philosophy and photography, can generate new public understandings of different lived experiences of 'home' and co-produce resources for healthy, ethical futures.

The event was sold out and attracted 350 attendees at the British Academy building in London. This was an excellent opportunity for public dissemination of the 'Meanings of Home' project to a wide and diverse audience, sharing some of the study's findings and announcing the forthcoming creation of a public digital archive of the project's recordings and photographs to be held at London Met's Special Collections.
